WHAT TO EXPECT ~ Sextantio, is a cultural project which breathes new life into forgotten places of Abruzzo and the local traditions. The hotel is a complex of guest rooms and apartments as well as a restaurant, a wine cellar and a grand lobby, all clustered around the village Santo Stefano di Sessanio. The old shepherds’ houses have been converted into guest rooms and underground spaces transformed into suites while the famous covo delle streghe – or witches cave – is today a meeting room. After over ten years of research – with the help of the museum Genti d’Abruzzo, this project recreates a true experience of living in the village hundreds of years ago. Prices start from 150 euro per night.
FOOD PHILOSOPHY ~ The restaurant of Sextantio aims to offer the experience of a simple and homemade meal, proposing local specialities and genuine flavours.
COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY ~ The project to conserve and revive the village Santo Stefano di Sessanio to be a scattered hotel involved a detailed plan to preserve the integrity of the hamlet and its surrounding landscape. Working alongside local organisations, such as the town hall and national park, Sextantio proposed special laws to prohibit any new construction in the area. The aim was to bring the village back to life and to welcome tourists without sacrificing Santo Stefano’s identity. The staff breathed new life into local cottage industries, like the production of natural handmade soap, local fabrics, handmade candles and traditional ceramics. To retain the raw character, all modern technologies are hidden and they implemented only original architectural materials and traditional furniture and textiles.
