CERAUDO WINE RELAIS

WHERE ~ near Crotone, Calabria

BEMYJOURNEY’S EXPERIENCE ~ “Staying at Ceraudo was like having a conversation with someone you have just met but you feel immediately connected to. Roberto and his family are great hosts and the estate, with its vineyards, olive groves and scented Mediterranean plants, is a precious hidden gem. My highlight was definitely the tractor tour and wine tasting experience.” Andrea

WHAT TO EXPECT ~ Ceraudo is a wine resort immersed in 20 hectares of vineyards, Mediterranean scrub, century-old olive groves and scented citrus trees. The story of this family-run relais begins in 1973 when Roberto bought the land surrounding the hotel to become a winemaker. After a few years working in the big estate, he realised that many guests were coming to taste his wine and he decided to offer them a full experience of Calabrian hospitality. At first, he restored the seventeenth-century village part of the estate, offering his guests a chance to stay overnight, and then he opened a restaurant run by his daughter Caterina, chef and enologist. The restaurant Dattilo today has one Michelin star and one Michelin Green Star, thanks to its commitment to sustainability. The wine resort offers 2 apartments and 4 guest rooms all immersed in nature. Prices start from 132 euro per night.

FOOD PHILOSOPHY ~ “My biggest learning is to respect the food and its origin, from the beginning to the ripening process up to its transformation in a meal”. Through her cuisine, Caterina Ceraudo aims to present Southern Italy gastronomic traditions in an innovative way. The Michelin-starred restaurant Dattilo is located in a 1600’s oil mill surrounded by vineyards and Mediterranean scrub and it proposes genuine and healthy products, including the Ceraudo farm’s seasonal produce.

COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY ~ Ceraudo is an organic farm since 1989. The Ceraudo family work every day to preserve the local biodiversity. Their belief is that our future is about bringing back the earth to the way it was 100 years ago, preserving and respecting the land and the natural elements thanks to the implementation of new technologies. In this estate, the wine cellars, the oil mill, the farmhouse and the restaurant are fully powered by a photovoltaic panel system. Ceraudo produces organic olive oil and wine and has been a pioneer in sustainable farming. Indeed, for over 30 years they have been experimenting with innovative ways to protect the plants and the soil from parasites while avoiding the use of chemicals.
