WHAT TO EXPECT ~ Relais Poggio ai Santi is nestled among the Costa degli Etruschi’s hills, only 5 KM from the beach. Silence and tranquillity are the main elements of this property, which encompasses 35 hectares of land, including an extended botanical garden, an olive tree grove, a rose garden and a swimming pool with views over the sea and the Etruscan city of Populonia. The relais offers 15 suites, all immersed in nature and all defined by a chic but simple style and unique decor. In the main building, Il Podere, you will find the restaurant Sale and the bbq bar Sal8 as well as four suites on the first floor, while the other suites are scattered amongst the surrounding park. Prices start from 150 euro per night.
FOOD PHILOSOPHY ~ The restaurant Sale offers the genuine flavours of the simplest Tuscan recipes that you will taste while admiring beautiful sunsets. The “bar agricolo” – or rural bar – Sal8 is a Slow Wine Bar where local artists and creatives hang out. Sal8 proposes barbecue specialities and a selection of cocktails inspired by the tradition and prepared by using homemade syrups and organic produce cultivated onsite.
COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY ~ Francesca, owner of the property, described to me her ethos as “bellezza utile” – or useful beauty. She spent her life aiming to create a place that, besides being beautiful, serves the local community and protect and enhance the local biodiversity. Relais Poggio ai Santi is also an organic farm led by sustainable development principles, producing olive oil, the vegetables used by the restaurants as well as breeding poultry and rabbits. The property produces its own energy through the installation of 700 meters of photovoltaic panels on the building’s roof.
